Cat trees are sold on height and photographed from the front. Both are misleading. A 72-inch tower on a 19-inch square base weighing 33 pounds is a worse product than a 67-inch tower on a 24-inch base weighing 57 pounds, and no product page will tell you that, because it is a relationship between three numbers rather than one number.
So we compute it. Our stability index is the shortest base dimension divided by the height, multiplied by the assembled weight — all three published by the maker. It is not a physics simulation and we do not pretend it is one. It is a ratio that ranks trees the way a cat landing hard on the top perch ranks them, and you can redo it on any tree in the shop in about ten seconds.

The Yaheetech scores half what the other two do, and it is the only one of the three whose maker publishes a per-platform weight rating — 11 lb on a platform, 22 lb in a condo. Those two facts are related: it is a light, narrow, tall tree, and Yaheetech is being straight with you about the consequence. A 16 lb Maine Coon does not belong on an 11 lb platform, and the maker says so. Most makers publish nothing at all, which is worse.
Vertical space without the floor cost
The Go Pet Club footprint is 22 by 33 inches — just over five square feet before a cat sets foot on it. In a one-bedroom flat with three cats, that is a meaningful amount of the room. Wall shelves rated to 40 lb take none of it, and window perches with a published 50 lb suction rating take none of it either.
The trade is access. A tree has stepped platforms an old or heavy cat can walk up. Shelves require a jump, every time. In a multi-cat house the answer is usually both: one stable tree as the accessible route, shelves above it to multiply the territory.
