Cat trees photograph identically. Every listing is a front-on shot of a carpeted tower with a cat on top, and none of them show the two things that determine whether it works: how wide the base is relative to the height, and how much the thing weighs.
So this list is built from the numbers rather than the photographs, and it deliberately includes wall shelves and a window perch alongside the trees — because for a lot of households those are simply the better answer to the same problem.

What the vertical space is actually for
Height is not decoration. For an indoor cat it is territory, and in a multi-cat house it is how two cats occupy the same room without occupying the same space. The Ohio State Indoor Pet Initiative frames indoor cat welfare around resources being available where the cat lives, and elevated resting places are one of the resources most commonly missing.
Which reframes the shopping decision. You are not buying one tall object. You are buying several separate high places, and the cheapest way to reach several is usually one good tree plus shelves plus a window, not one expensive tower.

Materials, briefly
Posts should be sisal. Carpet-wrapped posts work as scratching surfaces, which is precisely the problem — they teach a cat that carpeted vertical surfaces are for scratching, and your stairs are a carpeted vertical surface. FEANDREA publishes 3.4-inch sisal posts, which is thick enough for a large cat to brace against properly. The longer argument is in carpet versus sisal.
Two practical warnings
- Particleboard trees do not travel. The FEANDREA is particleboard, plush and sisal — excellent value, and a one-location purchase. Disassembling and reassembling one strips the fixings.
- Assembly is a two-person job at this weight. 52 to 57 pounds arriving flat-packed is not a one-evening solo project.

27 inches of ledge split two ways is 13.5 inches each -- less than a cat's body length. Two cats will not share this; in a multi-cat house it is one perch per window, not one perch for the household.
