Best Stainless Steel Automatic Cat Feeders (2026)
“Stainless steel bowl” and “dishwasher safe” are two different claims, and the listings that make the first rarely make the second.
Affiliate disclosure: we earn a commission if you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. It never changes which product we rank first — here is how we're funded.

Everyone in this category says they tested twenty litter boxes. We have not tested any, and we say so. What we do instead: compile the published specs, read the manuals, and do the arithmetic on what this gear costs to run and how it behaves once there is more than one cat using it. Every spec is linked to the document it came from. Prices are checked daily — last verified October 19, 2026. Here is exactly how we pick.

| 2 | ![]() PETLIBRO Granary Camera Feeder Publishes its portion size in milliliters rather than vague 'portions', which is the only way to work out whether a hopper will actually last a weekend. | Watching what actually happens at the bowl | 7.8 | |

#ad Buy links are affiliate links. Prices come from a live daily check; where we have no verified price we say "check price" rather than print a stale one.
Buy the PetSafe Smart Feed if you want stainless and a dishwasher claim you can actually point at — it is the only feeder here whose maker publishes the claim for every part food touches. Buy the PETLIBRO Granary if you want a stainless tray and a camera and will hand wash. Buy the SureFeed with its stainless bowl set if the food is wet or the household has more than one cat on different diets.
Two claims that get printed as one
Searching for a stainless automatic feeder turns up a lot of listings that say “stainless steel bowl” and a lot that say “easy to clean”, and almost none that say which specific parts survive a dishwasher. Those are separate facts, and on a machine that holds food for weeks the second one is what you are actually buying.
So the first thing this page did was count. Of the three feeders here that put stainless in front of the cat, how many parts does each maker publish a dishwasher rating for?
PetSafe Smart Feed, 2nd Generation: PetSafe states that the lid, hopper, bowl and bowl holder are dishwasher safe. Four parts — which is the entire food path.
PETLIBRO Granary Camera Feeder: PETLIBRO publishes capacity, portion size, meal count, kibble size, battery backup and a 24-month warranty, and no dishwasher statement at all. Zero parts published. The feeder does ship a stainless steel food tray.
SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder: the feeder’s own bowls are plastic. Sure Petcare publishes a dishwasher claim for the stainless steel bowl set — one part, and an accessory you buy separately.
Four, zero, and one-if-you-buy-it. That is the ranking on this page, and it is not the ranking any of these products’ marketing would give you.
What a feeder had to publish to appear here
- Stainless steel where food sits. A steel outer shell with a plastic bowl is not a stainless feeder.
- A maker’s own statement about cleaning. Present or absent — absence is reported rather than filled in.
- A published portion and schedule specification. So the thing can be used as a feeder, not just cleaned nicely.
- Currently purchasable. Each was checked as in stock before being written up.
We have not tested any of these feeders and we do not have a test kitchen. What we can do is read what each maker commits to in writing, which in this category turns out to be the whole story.
The three, side by side
| PetSafe Smart Feed 2nd Gen | PETLIBRO Granary Camera | SureFeed Microchip | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stainless where food sits | Yes -- bowl and bowl holder | Yes -- stainless steel food tray | Only with the separate bowl set |
| Dishwasher-safe parts published | Lid, hopper, bowl, bowl holder | None published | The stainless bowl set only |
| Food types | Dry or semi-moist | Dry only, 2-15 mm kibble | Wet and dry |
| Capacity | 24 cups (6 L) | 5 L | 400 ml bowl, or two wet pouches |
| Portion range | 1/8 cup to 4 cups | 20 ml per portion, 1-50 per meal | N/A -- it is a lid, not a timer |
| Meals per day | Up to 12 | Up to 10 | N/A |
| Multi-cat separation | No | No | Yes -- up to 32 microchip identities |
| Power | AC adapter, 4 x D backup | DC 5 V adapter, 3 x D backup | 4 x C cells, 6-month stated life |
| Notable extra | Dispenses over 15 minutes as a slow feed | 1080p camera, night vision | 3-year warranty |
Makers' published figures as named in our sources. "None published" means we could not find the claim on the maker's own product page -- not that the part fails in a dishwasher.
The picks
The PetSafe Smart Feed, 2nd Generation is the pick for most households and the clear winner of the question this page asks. A stainless bowl in a holder that stops the cat nose-shoving it across the floor, and the only published dishwasher list that covers the lid, the hopper, the bowl and the holder. The rest of the specification is strong independently: a 24-cup hopper, portions from 1/8 to 4 cups, up to 12 meals a day, and a slow-feed mode that spreads a meal over 15 minutes. The honest cons: dry and semi-moist food only, it is the largest object here at over 20 inches long, there is no multi-cat separation at all, and D-cell backup means four batteries sitting in a drawer against the day the power goes.
The PETLIBRO Granary Camera Feeder is the pick when you want to see what happens at the bowl as well as fill it. The stainless food tray is genuine, the published specification is deep in every other respect — 5 L, 20 ml portions up to 50 per meal, 10 meals a day, 2-15 mm kibble, D-cell backup, 24-month warranty — and a 1080p camera with night vision answers the question of which cat is eating in a way no schedule can. The honest cons: no dishwasher statement published for any part, dry food only, a camera is an extra privacy decision in a room you may not have been thinking about, and it separates nothing in a multi-cat home.
The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is the pick if the real problem is two cats and one prescription diet, and it is the only feeder here that handles wet food. Up to 32 microchip identities, a 400 ml bowl that takes two wet pouches, a three-year warranty, and six months on four C cells. Add the stainless steel bowl set and you get two dishwasher-safe metal bowls with a neoprene sealing rim rated for wet and dry. The honest cons: the stainless is an extra purchase rather than what arrives in the box, this is a lid rather than a timer so it schedules nothing, Sure Petcare publishes no dishwasher rating for the feeder body, and you need one unit per controlled cat.
Cleaning the parts no dishwasher will take
- Never put the motor housing in water. Whatever the bowl rating says, the dispensing mechanism and the battery compartment are hand-wipe only on all three of these.
- Dry the hopper completely before refilling. A damp hopper turns kibble to paste and jams the rotor; this is the most common failure in the category.
- Wash the bowl daily if the food is wet. The stainless is there to make that easy, not to make it optional.
- Pull the desiccant bag before any wash. PETLIBRO ships one and it is not a washable part.
- Full schedule in our guide. Cleaning an automatic cat feeder works through three clocks for three parts.
When a stainless feeder is the wrong purchase
If your actual problem is one cat eating the other’s food, no hopper feeder solves it in any material — you need access control, and that is the microchip route or nothing. Our microchip against automatic comparison draws that line properly.
If the food is wet and the gap is longer than a working day, the stainless bowl is not the constraint either; temperature is. Our wet food feeder page covers the cooled machines, and how long wet food can sit out is the number that decides it.
And if you only want a better bowl rather than a machine, stainless against ceramic against plastic is the shorter version of this argument with no motor attached.

PetSafe Smart Feed, 2nd Generation
PetSafe · Automatic feeder · Our score 7.9/10

#ad Price as of October 19, 2026. Prices move; we check daily. How we're funded.
24 cups of hopper and portions from an eighth of a cup up to four cups -- the widest published portion range of any feeder on this page.
Published specs
| Hopper capacity | 24 cups (6 L) |
|---|---|
| Portion range | 1/8 cup to 4 cups |
| Meals per day | Up to 12 |
| Dimensions | 20.3" x 9.4" x 12.6" |
| Slow feed | Dispenses a meal over 15 minutes |
| Dishwasher | Lid, hopper, bowl and holder, top shelf |
| Food type | Dry or semi-moist |
Source: PetSafe -- Smart Feed Automatic Dog and Cat Feeder, 2nd Generation
24 cups of hopper. Three cats eating half a cup each per day is 1.5 cups daily, so about 16 days. The slow-feed setting spreads one meal over 15 minutes, which is the published feature that matters if one of your cats inhales food and then takes the other's.
What the specs favor
- Largest published hopper here at 24 cups
- Portions from 1/8 cup to 4 cups -- the widest range on this page
- Slow feed spreads a meal over 15 minutes
- All food-contact parts are dishwasher safe
What they don't
- Single bowl, so no separation between cats
- Dry or semi-moist only
- 20 inches long -- it takes real counter or floor space
You feed wet food. Nothing about this feeder handles it, and leaving wet food in an open bowl on a timer is a food-safety problem, not a convenience.

PETLIBRO Granary Camera Feeder
PETLIBRO · Automatic feeder · Our score 7.8/10

#ad Price as of October 19, 2026. Prices move; we check daily. How we're funded.
Publishes its portion size in milliliters rather than vague 'portions', which is the only way to work out whether a hopper will actually last a weekend.
Published specs
| Hopper capacity | 5 L |
|---|---|
| Portion size | 20 ml per portion, 1-50 portions per meal |
| Meals per day | Up to 10 |
| Camera | 1080p, 145-degree lens, night vision |
| Power | DC 5 V adapter plus 3 x D cells backup |
| Kibble size | 2-15 mm diameter |
| Dimensions / weight | 13 x 7.5 x 7.5 in / 4.3 lb |
Source: PETLIBRO -- Granary Smart Camera Feeder product page
5 L hopper, 20 ml per portion, so 250 portions. Two cats on two meals a day at five portions a meal is 20 portions daily -- about 12 days of food. That is the number that tells you whether it covers a holiday, and it comes straight from PETLIBRO's own published portion volume.
What the specs favor
- Portion published as a real volume (20 ml), not an abstract 'portion'
- 5 L hopper -- roughly 12 days for two cats on the arithmetic above
- Battery backup on D cells if the power drops
- Kibble compatibility published as 2-15 mm
What they don't
- One bowl, so it cannot separate two cats' food
- Dry food only
- Camera means a cloud account and a phone in the loop
One of your cats eats the other's food. A single-bowl dispenser with a camera lets you watch the theft happen in 1080p without stopping it.

SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder
Sure Petcare · Microchip feeder · Our score 8.5/10

#ad Price as of October 19, 2026. Prices move; we check daily. How we're funded.
The only feeder here that solves the actual multi-cat feeding problem, which is not portioning -- it is one cat eating another cat's food.
Published specs
| Bowl capacity | 400 ml, or two pouches of wet food |
|---|---|
| Pets stored | Up to 32 identities |
| Food types | Wet and dry |
| Power | 4 x C cells, 6-month stated battery life |
| Warranty | 3 years from date of purchase |
| Opens for | Registered microchips or a collar tag |
Source: Sure Petcare -- SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder product page
Sure Petcare states 6 months from a set of 4 C cells, so 8 cells a year per feeder. In a three-cat house you need one feeder per cat on a controlled diet -- 24 cells a year for three. That is the running cost nobody mentions.
What the specs favor
- Stores up to 32 pet identities -- more than any household needs
- Works with an existing microchip, no new collar required
- Takes wet food, which almost no automatic feeder does
- Three-year warranty, the longest here
What they don't
- Battery only -- 8 C cells a year, per feeder
- One feeder feeds one cat, so a three-cat house needs three
- 400 ml bowl is a meal, not a hopper -- it does not solve holidays
Your problem is being out all day rather than food stealing. This is a lid that opens for the right cat, not a scheduled dispenser -- it will not feed anyone at 6pm on its own.
