Best Automatic Cat Feeders (2026)
Every feeder quotes capacity in a different unit. We converted all of them into the same number: days of food for your household.

Everyone in this category says they tested twenty litter boxes. We have not tested any, and we say so. What we do instead: compile the published specs, read the manuals, and do the arithmetic on what this gear costs to run and how it behaves once there is more than one cat using it. Every spec is linked to the document it came from. Prices are checked daily — last verified January 1, 1970. Here is exactly how we pick.

| # | Product | Best for | Score | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | No photo PetSafe Smart Feed, 2nd Generation 24 cups of hopper and portions from an eighth of a cup up to four cups -- the widest published portion range of any feeder on this page. | The biggest hopper here | 7.9 | |
| 2 | No photo PETLIBRO Granary Camera Feeder Publishes its portion size in milliliters rather than vague 'portions', which is the only way to work out whether a hopper will actually last a weekend. | Watching what actually happens at the bowl | 7.8 | |

#ad Buy links are affiliate links. Prices come from a live daily check; where we have no verified price we say "check price" rather than print a stale one.
Automatic feeder listings quote capacity in liters, cups, or nothing at all, and portions as an abstract count. None of that tells you the only thing you want to know: how many days of food will this hold for my cats?
Capacity converted into days
| Feeder | Published capacity | 1 cat | 2 cats | 3 cats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PetSafe Smart Feed | 24 cups | About 48 days | About 24 days | About 16 days |
| PETLIBRO Granary Camera | 5 L / 250 x 20 ml portions | About 25 days | About 12 days | About 8 days |
| SureFeed Microchip | 400 ml bowl (one meal) | One meal | n/a -- one cat per feeder | n/a |
Capacities are the manufacturers' published figures. Day counts assume half a cup of dry food per cat per day, or ten 20 ml portions -- our assumption, stated so you can substitute your own.
The SureFeed row looks like a failure and it is not. It is a different product doing a different job: a sealed bowl that opens for one registered cat, holding one meal. If your problem is a prescription diet being eaten by the wrong cat, no hopper capacity in the world helps you — see the multi-cat feeder page.
Portion control, and why the units matter
PetSafe publishes a portion range of one-eighth of a cup up to four cups. PETLIBRO publishes a portion as 20 ml, adjustable from 1 to 50 portions per meal. Both of those are real, checkable units you can hold against your cat’s daily ration. A feeder that advertises “up to 39 portions” with no volume attached is telling you nothing.
Wet food is a hard no on hoppers
Every hopper feeder here is dry or semi-moist only, and that is a design constraint rather than an oversight: a hopper is a warm plastic column and wet food in it is a food-safety problem. The SureFeed handles wet food because it is a sealed bowl holding a single meal, and its published capacity of 400 ml takes about two pouches.
If you feed wet food and need cover for a weekend, the honest answer is a person, not a machine.
What to check before you rely on one
- Battery backup. PETLIBRO’s Granary takes three D cells as backup; check any feeder you plan to leave running unattended.
- Kibble compatibility. PETLIBRO publishes 2–15 mm. Large or awkwardly shaped kibble jams dispensers.
- Cleanability. PetSafe’s lid, hopper, bowl and holder are top-shelf dishwasher safe. Grease from kibble builds up and it needs washing.
- A dry run. Set it up and let it feed for a full week while you are home, before you ever leave it in charge.
Longer trips need a different plan entirely — see leaving cats alone, honestly.

PetSafe Smart Feed, 2nd Generation
PetSafe · Automatic feeder · Our score 7.9/10
#ad No verified live price right now, so we show none rather than a stale one. How we're funded.
24 cups of hopper and portions from an eighth of a cup up to four cups -- the widest published portion range of any feeder on this page.
Published specs
| Hopper capacity | 24 cups (6 L) |
|---|---|
| Portion range | 1/8 cup to 4 cups |
| Meals per day | Up to 12 |
| Dimensions | 20.3" x 9.4" x 12.6" |
| Slow feed | Dispenses a meal over 15 minutes |
| Dishwasher | Lid, hopper, bowl and holder, top shelf |
| Food type | Dry or semi-moist |
Source: PetSafe -- Smart Feed Automatic Dog and Cat Feeder, 2nd Generation
24 cups of hopper. Three cats eating half a cup each per day is 1.5 cups daily, so about 16 days. The slow-feed setting spreads one meal over 15 minutes, which is the published feature that matters if one of your cats inhales food and then takes the other's.
What the specs favor
- Largest published hopper here at 24 cups
- Portions from 1/8 cup to 4 cups -- the widest range on this page
- Slow feed spreads a meal over 15 minutes
- All food-contact parts are dishwasher safe
What they don't
- Single bowl, so no separation between cats
- Dry or semi-moist only
- 20 inches long -- it takes real counter or floor space
You feed wet food. Nothing about this feeder handles it, and leaving wet food in an open bowl on a timer is a food-safety problem, not a convenience.

PETLIBRO Granary Camera Feeder
PETLIBRO · Automatic feeder · Our score 7.8/10
#ad No verified live price right now, so we show none rather than a stale one. How we're funded.
Publishes its portion size in milliliters rather than vague 'portions', which is the only way to work out whether a hopper will actually last a weekend.
Published specs
| Hopper capacity | 5 L |
|---|---|
| Portion size | 20 ml per portion, 1-50 portions per meal |
| Meals per day | Up to 10 |
| Camera | 1080p, 145-degree lens, night vision |
| Power | DC 5 V adapter plus 3 x D cells backup |
| Kibble size | 2-15 mm diameter |
| Dimensions / weight | 13 x 7.5 x 7.5 in / 4.3 lb |
Source: PETLIBRO -- Granary Smart Camera Feeder product page
5 L hopper, 20 ml per portion, so 250 portions. Two cats on two meals a day at five portions a meal is 20 portions daily -- about 12 days of food. That is the number that tells you whether it covers a holiday, and it comes straight from PETLIBRO's own published portion volume.
What the specs favor
- Portion published as a real volume (20 ml), not an abstract 'portion'
- 5 L hopper -- roughly 12 days for two cats on the arithmetic above
- Battery backup on D cells if the power drops
- Kibble compatibility published as 2-15 mm
What they don't
- One bowl, so it cannot separate two cats' food
- Dry food only
- Camera means a cloud account and a phone in the loop
One of your cats eats the other's food. A single-bowl dispenser with a camera lets you watch the theft happen in 1080p without stopping it.

SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder
Sure Petcare · Microchip feeder · Our score 8.5/10
#ad No verified live price right now, so we show none rather than a stale one. How we're funded.
The only feeder here that solves the actual multi-cat feeding problem, which is not portioning -- it is one cat eating another cat's food.
Published specs
| Bowl capacity | 400 ml, or two pouches of wet food |
|---|---|
| Pets stored | Up to 32 identities |
| Food types | Wet and dry |
| Power | 4 x C cells, 6-month stated battery life |
| Warranty | 3 years from date of purchase |
| Opens for | Registered microchips or a collar tag |
Source: Sure Petcare -- SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder product page
Sure Petcare states 6 months from a set of 4 C cells, so 8 cells a year per feeder. In a three-cat house you need one feeder per cat on a controlled diet -- 24 cells a year for three. That is the running cost nobody mentions.
What the specs favor
- Stores up to 32 pet identities -- more than any household needs
- Works with an existing microchip, no new collar required
- Takes wet food, which almost no automatic feeder does
- Three-year warranty, the longest here
What they don't
- Battery only -- 8 C cells a year, per feeder
- One feeder feeds one cat, so a three-cat house needs three
- 400 ml bowl is a meal, not a hopper -- it does not solve holidays
Your problem is being out all day rather than food stealing. This is a lid that opens for the right cat, not a scheduled dispenser -- it will not feed anyone at 6pm on its own.
