There is no motor to jam, no battery to die, no app to update and no firmware. A gravity feeder is a hopper and a bowl, and for the right cat that is the right answer.
What it does and does not do
Kibble sits in a hopper above a bowl. As the cat eats, more falls in. That is the whole mechanism, and it explains both the appeal and the limit: the feeder cannot stop, cannot count, and cannot tell one cat from another.
