Ceramic fountains are usually sold on how they look. There is a better reason to buy one, and for once we can isolate it exactly.
The same fountain, twice
Pioneer publishes 60 oz and 11.75 x 9.75 x 4.25 inches for the ceramic Raindrop. It publishes the same 60 oz and the same footprint for the stainless Raindrop.
Same shape, same capacity, same pump platform, same 2 to 4 week filter interval. The only variable left is the material, which almost never happens in this category.
So: ceramic is heavier and looks like homeware, and it can chip. Steel is lighter and unbreakable. Both resist the scratching that makes an old plastic fountain hard to keep clean. There is no performance difference to find, because there is none.

The picks
The Raindrop Ceramic is the pick for most homes. Sixty ounces suits one or two cats, the glazed bowl goes in the dishwasher, and at 4.25 inches tall it is low enough that a cat drinks in a natural posture rather than reaching down into a deep well.
The Big Max is the multi-cat ceramic: 128 oz, more than double the Raindrop. Pioneer does not publish its dimensions anywhere we could verify, which is the reason it is second rather than first -- you cannot check it fits your counter before it arrives.

- Anyone whose fountain slides across the floor. Ceramic is heavy.
- Anyone who wants it on show. That is a legitimate reason and the one the category is sold on.
