Indoor cats spend hours at windows because the window is where the world moves. A feeder on the glass makes sure something always is.
Why this is a cat product
The Ohio State Indoor Pet Initiative treats visual stimulation from outside as genuine enrichment for indoor cats. The difficulty is that a window is only interesting when something happens outside it, and on most days, at most windows, not much does.
A feeder on the glass fixes that. Birds come to it on their own schedule, several times a day, a few inches from the cat’s face. It needs no batteries, no participation, and it gets refilled perhaps once a week. As enrichment per dollar and per minute of your time, nothing on this site comes close.
A feeder needs a perch
The feeder: Nature’s Hangout is 12 x 5.5 x 4.5 inches of 1/4 inch cast acrylic, on suction cups rated to 10 lb of pull. It goes on the outside of the glass.
The perch: K&H’s EZ Mount is 27 x 11 inches on suction cups rated to 50 lb. It goes on the inside of the same pane, at the height of the feeder.
Two cats: K&H’s Double Stack has two 23 x 12 inch levels, also rated to 50 lb, and needs glass of at least 27 by 31 inches. Two cats, one feeder, no competition for the only seat.

The picks
Nature’s Hangout is the feeder, and the reason it wins is the specification most window feeders leave out: a published pull force for the suction cups, with spare cups in the box. The tray lifts out and drains, so seed does not sit in rainwater, and the acrylic is thick enough to stay clear.
K&H’s EZ Mount perch is the seat. It uses no floor, and at 27 inches long it gives an average cat room to lie full length facing the glass. Our window perch roundup covers it in more depth.
The Double Stack is for a two-cat house. One window seat between two cats is a contested resource, and our competition guide explains why that matters. Two levels means two seats. Check your glass first: it needs at least 27 by 31 inches.
Setting it up
- Choose the window the cat already uses. Not the one that suits the birds best.
- Clean the glass and the suction cups. Both sides, with the cups warm. Suction fails on dirty or very cold glass.
- Mount the perch first, the feeder second, at matching heights.
- Keep the window closed, or properly screened. Our window screen page covers screens a cat cannot claw through.
- Give it a week. Birds take a while to find a new feeder.
When it is too much
Most cats watch, chatter and settle. A few cannot settle: they pace, cry or take their frustration out on another cat in the house. That is a real response to prey the cat cannot reach, and it is not something to push through.
- Move the perch to a different window, so the feeder is visible but not in the cat’s face.
- Play first. A wand session before window time takes the edge off.
- Take the feeder down if nothing helps. A window without birds is still a window.

The single-level EZ Mount gives 27 inches split two ways -- 13.5 inches each, less than a cat's body length, so in practice one cat gets it. The double stack gives each cat a full 23-inch level at a different height, which is how cats share space when they have the option.
