Most odor advice starts with the litter. It should start with the box, because the shape of the box decides how much smell reaches the room — and, more importantly, whether the cat keeps using it.
The trade nobody states plainly
That is why this list is not simply ordered by how sealed each box is. A perfectly contained box that a cat stops using is the worst outcome available, and it is a common one.

Notice the split. The two enclosed options contain odor; the two open ones contain litter and urine, which is a different and often more valuable thing. A box that keeps soiled litter off the surrounding floor removes a hidden odor source most people never identify.

Modkat rates its reusable liner at up to three months, so four a year. A ScoopFree needs twelve disposable trays in the same period, and the Litter-Robot around 156 drawer liners. Reusable is not a green talking point here, it is the cheapest consumable model of the three.
